Wellness exams: It is always better to prevent illness, than to treat it. Yearly examination for all cats and dogs and twice yearly exams once they reach eight years of age are recommended. During these exams it is important to communicate any questions or concerns that you have about your pet. Routine blood screens, heartworm tests, fecal exams and urine samples help to diagnose any potential problems as early as possible.
Vaccinations: All dogs and cats should be vaccinated against the common viral and bacterial diseases that affect their health. Many vaccines are now available and not all pets require all vaccines. We will develop a vaccine schedule that best fits the life style of your pet.
Laboratory and diagnostic services: The Niles Animal Clinic provides a large array of diagnostic and laboratory services at our hospital. We are equipped with an Idexx Vet Test analyzer for blood chemistries, giving immediate results for critical patients. We have a radiology unit for diagnostic X-rays and even have the capability to transmit these images to specialists for consultation as necessary. Our ultrasound machine allows further evaluation of our patients, and we frequently use ultrasound to image patients with abdominal or thoracic disorders, confirm pregnancies, monitor response to therapy, and obtain samples for cytology.
In addition to our in-house equipment, we frequently use Antech Diagnostics, the largest veterinary reference laboratory in the country. Twice daily pick ups insure next day results in almost all cases.
Veterinary Information Network: Dr. Schleiffarth is a member of the national veterinary information network which links practitioners to hundreds of board certified specialists around the country. This network allows access to the most up to date therapeutic and diagnostic information for your pet.
Surgery: The Niles Animal Clinic is well equipped to perform all common surgeries. General surgeries are scheduled Monday through Friday, with admittance usually scheduled at 8:00 a.m. and discharge after 3:00 on the same day. Certain surgeries, such as feline declaws, orthopedics or extensive soft tissue procedures, may require overnight hospitalization. Early admissions or late pick ups can be scheduled at your convenience.
Dental Care: Oral health is extremely important for both dogs and cats. The dental suite is equipped with a dental x-ray, high speed and low speed hand pieces, air and water syringes, and sterile hand instruments to provide the best care possible. We have the capabilities to perform routine cleanings, periodontal treatment, endodontics, extractions, and oral surgery .
Anesthesia and Pain Management: All our surgical and dental cases require anesthesia, and we provide the latest in anesthetic protocols and pain management. A variety of protocols allows individualization of anesthesia delivery to pets of all ages. All patients receive preanesthetic pain medications as well as post operative analgesics as required. Following induction of anesthesia, oxygen and anesthetic gas maintenance allows for a safe and controlled anesthesia. All patients are monitored closely with blood pressure monitors, pulse oximetry or esophageal stethoscopes and a dedicated assistant. Intravenous catheters and fluids provide hydration support, blood pressure regulation and a medication access port.
Emergency care: We are fortunate to have a convenient emergency hospital in our area for after hour emergencies and weekend care. If the Niles Animal Clinic is closed please contact the Animal Emergency Clinic on Grape road at 574-259-8387.
